Advertiser FAQ
What is lat49?
Lat49 is an advertising network that puts your brand on the map. Lat49 allows advertisers
to extend branding and local advertising reach to the large audience that uses online interactive
maps. 85% of Internet users use map sites (PI&ALP).

What type of sites does my lat49 ad appear on?
Your ad will appear on Websites that feature interactive maps built on APIs from Google,
Microsoft, Yahoo, MapQuest or other map providers. The vertical market segments covered by
map-centric sites include: travel, social networking, traffic, weather, news, events, sports and
recreation. For more information about the publishers in the lat49 network, visit our
Featured Websites page.

Where on the map will my ad display?
The publisher of the map site has the ability to optimize where on the map your ad is displayed.
On most sites, the optimal positioning for the ad will be in the bottom right corner of the map display.

What is a 'tile'?
A tile is a square region of the map. At a local level, this might cover approximately 4
city blocks. At a regional level, it might account for half a state. The map region is clearly
defined by our tile picker when you set up your ad.

What do I get when I purchase a tile?
You purchase the exclusive advertising rights to that tile (region of the map) on the lat49 network. [Top]
What type of ads does lat49 support?
We currently support the IAB standard half banner and button ads. We also have one custom
format that combines image and text and is optimized for the on map experience. For more information
about our ad formats, visit our Ad Formats page.
You can also make any of the ad formats into expandable ads. By selecting this option, your ad will "grow"
to a 300x250 pixel image (that you have supplied) when a user mouses over your ad. The expandable ad unit has
eye-catching animation and provides room for added creative impact.

What is a 'channel'?
A channel is a grouping of publisher sites based on the subject matter and features that they provide.
You can choose for your ad to run across the entire network, or segment your audience even further by content
channels.

How much does an ad on the lat49 network cost?
Lat49 land tiles are sold at fixed monthly rates so that you have clarity on your monthly ad spend.
Pricing is based on the specific land you want to advertise on and whether your ad runs across the entire
network or is targeted to a specific vertical channel of publisher site. Just as in real world real estate,
there is high demand map real estate and these high traffic tiles come at a premium. The land rush is on.

What is a 'premium tile'?
Premium tiles are the most viewed tiles on the lat49 network.

Is lat49 just for local advertisers or can brand advertisers benefit too?
Lat49 offers advertisers a unique and compelling way to blend local, call-to-action advertising
with branding initiatives. For example, a car company may buy the local-level tiles where their dealer's
locations are and display ads that are incentives for the map user to enter that location and take a test
drive. They might also achieve their branding initiatives by buying neighborhood-level ads over residential
areas they know reflect their buyer's demographics. People tend to perform map searches for directions
to and from their homes and will see the company's ad often.
Lat49 can also play a key role in multi-platform, interactive campaigns. Ad agencies
might choose to create "treasure hunts" or interactive games using the map network and ads as part of
the experience.

What kind of reporting do you have for me?
We track and record detailed information each time an ad is served (viewed) on a publisher website,
and each time an ad is clicked on. That data allows us to provide you reports to track and monitor your
ad campaigns. You will know how, when and on which sites your ads are being viewed, as well as how often
your ads are being clicked on.
We will also be adding new features to the system frequently. Let us know what is
important to you terms of reporting and we'll work on getting those changes into our product roadmap.

What if I don't want my ads displayed on a particular publisher site?
There is currently no way for you to target ads to only specific publisher sites. However, we have
an established set of content policies related to the kind of
publisher sites accepted into the network. If you think a site violates that policy, or think our policy
needs to be updated, please let us know and we'll look into it. Our product roadmap also includes
functionality for future releases that would allow advertisers to target their ads to specific publisher
sites only.

What if I don't want my ads displayed on the same site as my competitors' ads?
Only one advertiser can buy the advertising rights to a map tile, so your ad will be the only one
served when the ad call is made for your region of the map.

I'd like to just buy a specific geographic area (e.g. New York). How can I do
that instead of going to the trouble of picking tiles?
Our tile picker UI makes it very easy to pick only one tile, or a large number of tiles. We would
also be happy to have one of our sales reps do that work for you, and set up an ad covering the full
geographic region you want (assuming it is available).
[Top]
What is 'multi-level picking'?
The multi-level tile picking feature allows you to select available tiles on two ad purchase levels simultaneously.
For example, if you select a tile at the Urban level, multi-level picking automatically
selects all the available corresponding tiles at the Neighborhood level. If you prefer to pick all of your tiles individually,
simply click the multi-level picking button in the top right corner of the map to turn the feature off.
